Christmas Carol Meme

No photo today - thanks to Blogger

I have been tagged by Kerrdelune for this Carol Meme

Having just ventured one of my infrequent trips into the world of commerce --- My first response was “The last thing in the world I want to think about is ‘Christmas’ or ‘Christmas Muzac…..’”
Then I listened to the wonderful sounds of “In the Bleak Midwinter” which Cate posted on her blog, a gift from Joanna Powell Colbert and Craig Olson, and decided to participate.

Particular Favorites

In the Bleak Midwinter ,Christina Rossetti/Gustav Holst (1905)
Joy and Hope by William Zeiller played on the Glass armonica
(click on the links on these particular favorites for samples of the music)

Other Favorites

"O Holy Night" ("Cantique de Noël") composed by Adolphe Adam in 1847 to the French poem "Minuit, chrétiens" by Placide Cappeau (1808-1877)

"Greensleeves" The legend is that it was composed by King Henry VIII of England (1491-1547) for his future queen consort Anne Boleyn.

"Carol of the Bells" (also known as the "Ukrainian Bell Carol") was adapted from "Shchedryk" by Mykola Dmytrovych Leontovych

"Angels We Have Heard on High" The words of the song are based on a traditional French carol known as Les Anges dans nos Campagnes (literally, The Angels in our Countryside). Its most common English version was translated in 1862 by James Chadwick. It is most commonly sung to the hymn tune "Gloria", as arranged by Edward Shippen Barnes.

Absolutely Not ….
This category is open -
there are far too many to list but they are made up of the sounds that fill the marketplace begining the first day of November (if not sooner)

Winter and Fall

"I prefer winter and fall, when you feel the bone structure of the
landscape - the loneliness of it, the dead feeling of winter.
Something waits beneath it, the whole story doesn't show. "
