Sun & Grass and ? --- Spring?

"There are two seasonal diversions
that can ease the bite of any winter.
One is the January thaw.
The other is the seed catalogues."
Hal Borland

"As I write, snow is falling outside my Maine window,
and indoors all around me
half a hundred garden catalogues are in bloom."

- Katharine S. White

The first packet of seeds arrived in the mail today...

Now I am ready for Spring

Ahhh. This post brings back memories. My father gardened (vegetables) as long as I can remember. Small ones when he was still working. A huge garden when he retired. He saved a great deal of seeds from the plants each year, but ordered new ones, as well. I remember the excitement when it was 'seed' time each year. Wonderful post! Do you grow vegetables or flowers or both?

OK, first of all, the art took my breath away.

Then, I had to stop and think, Hal Borland? Hal ... Borland. OH YA! Terrific.

Looking forward to pictures of your garden! Enjoy the thaw.

I love these quotes. We are all poised with our seeds, waiting for just the right moment to start digging in the soil. I said to the pirate just a minute ago, "I'm planting some of our flower seeds today."

I can't wait for photos of your garden. Oh summer is going to be rich.

The artwork in this post is stunning. I'm joyful for those of you greeting the emerging spring, digging your flower and vegetable beds and planting seeds in rich loam. I live vicariously through your blogs and echo RD: "I can't wait for photos of your garden."

I love growing things - especially herbs

my dad had a huge garden also things lots of vegetables as well as flowers. I remember playing behind large camelia bushes, ground covered with baby tears-- making hollyhock dolls. We grow vegetables and flowers - last year I successfully planted 4 flats of fox gloves -- I am waiting to see what happens this spring.

Thanks for the kind words - 60's here today and yes I am enjoying every warm little degree.

I collect quotes --- they are all over the margins of my journal (even have a loose leaf notebook to hold them) Guess the reality is that I enjoy words.

thanks for the kind comments
the only reason there is anything but pine trees and rocks here is that my husband built some planting boxes and we are filling them with very expensive planting mediums -- Building a garden here has been very rewarding but lots of hard work.

Pictures will com
