Seven Random Things Meme

Reflection Basha Kill Marsh, NY early December

I've been tagged by Cate, whose blog Beyond the Fields We Know is one of the first places I go each morning.

I shall join the game. The rules are as follows :

link to the person who tagged you and post the rules on your blog.
share 7 random or weird things about yourself.
tag 7 random people at the end of your post, and include links to their blogs
let each person know they have been tagged by leaving a comment on their blog.

(1) During the early 1960's I began making dolls - the hobby grew and grew until many years ago (In what seems like another world) I taught dollmaking and had a studio. During those long ago days I made dolls from 1" tall to 5' tall. Now I like making dolls but the thing I enjoy most is making period clothing and accessories for the dolls.

(2) Adobe Photoshop CS2 has been installed on my computer. It sits here intimidating me. Even though I really want to learn to use the program and I open it regularly - I find that I do not really speak Photoshop CS yet.

(3) I have Porphyria. Even my doctor asks “What is that?”

(4) It is a heartfelt desire to take a close up picture of a Puffin – Now I must admit that just one probably wouldn’t meet my dreams or expectations but I do want to have a chance to click away until I am too cold or tired to keep clicking.

(5) One of my favorite spots to visit is Glacier Waterton Lakes Peace Park On the Canada/US Border. The last time we were there we were treated to views of a mama bear and her cub playing in the lake, Sandhill Cranes, and to top off the day a mountain lion hunting at sunset

(6) When sitting here during the gray winter days I frequently daydream about going on a long canoe trip. Preferably someplace where there are not a lot of mosquitoes.

(7) For many years I have collected Fashion Plates - Like Godey or Peterson’s but the ones I enjoy most are “La Saison”, “Journal des Demoiselles”, “La Mode”, “Victoria,” or “The World of Fashion”. Regularly I receive small flat packages for birthdays or other special occasions. Oh the joy and anticipation - these packages frequently contain some of my most treasured gifts

Lovely to read where the meme flows! Ive seen your comments on Cate's blog.

Puffins? I had the great fun of seeing them face to face on my last visit to Iona this summer - on a trip to the uninhabited Treshnish Isles. Specially planned and timed with puffin admiring in mind. Fantastic!

Your random facts were interesting to read. I am also a big fan of Waterton Lakes Nat'l Park. My dad and I were canoeing one time on Cameron Lake when there was a sudden storm. That was just a tad scary. It is just a gorgeous place!!

Your answers are fascinating. No 7is quite delightful and I never would have guessed! And if you want puffins, have you thought of coming over to North Wales ? ....

That photo is stunning!
I use about 5% of photoshop capacity, as the rest is well beyond me ;)
Why did I never imagine you made dolls! How interesting!

That illness is a tough one and yet you are a warrior. The beauty you share here proves that. I hope you get your Puffin. :)

I'm fascinated that you used to make dolls, do you have any you can show us pictures of?

As for Photoshop CS2, it can be very daunting at first, but it's delightful fun and well worth the effort. I taught myself, using a book at first and then by experimentation. It was going pretty well, but I was still frustrated when I was introduced to a website of tutorials. I had your e-mail on my old computer but don't have it on this one, would you please send it to me and I will be happy to send you the addresses of online tutorials that have helped me along.

what an interesting meme....and your are indeed a fascinating person with many talents!

there is an island called protection island in the Puget Sound area where you can see puffins. you can travel to the island by boat from Pt Townsend for about 4 weeks each summer. Check it out!

i hope your disease does not leave you in a lot of pain. :(

This meme is self-selecting fun blogs for me to read. I didn't expect such when I originally participated. Thanks for coming by my blog and your meme wishes are very similar to things I enjoy. Canoeing is one of the easy things we can do here.

Oh, can we see some of your dolls? I just knew you did something very creative!

I would love to see Glacier Park some day, having read so much about it. Christine, from QuietPaths lives very near there, and posts wonderfuls shots of the park.

Hi Endment,
I'm not surprised you have several creative paths of expression, including dolls. :) I want to see a Puffin too! This was fun. Thanks for tagging me--helped bridge my re-entry to our little blogging community following another heavy semester of school. Hope you're thoroughly enjoying your holiday season!

And you have even more hidden depths, I'm sure.

I believe I wandered over to your place from Kate's a couple of weeks ago. At that time I bookmarked it.

Today I learn about the author! A dollmaker who takes astonishingly beautiful photos, is fond of puffins and canoe trips and Fashion Plates, and is intimidated by Photoshop C52. An interesting person with an interesting blog.

Well, I learned something new today: Porphyria.

When I worked as a phlebotomist, I had a friend who was diagnosed with a version of porphyria called erythropoietic porphyria. Usual treatments were not giving him any relief and he had read that good old-fashioned "bleedings" might give him some respite. So once a week, I would go over to his house and drain him a little. Sounds yucky, but it did make him feel a bit better. It cleared up his blisters and helped his photosensitivity. He was a construction worker and had a heck of a time being outside without long sleeves and pants.
It's been suggested that Vincent Van Gogh had it...you are in good company, anyway.
I love your list....dolls? How cool is that?

I went to Iceland a few years ago and I am pretty sure there are puffins up there. You could have your dream come true. It's just about 5 hours' flight from NY.

Gosh darn, I've been browsing around your blog, reading different posts, and I'm just going to have to bookmark your blog -- I have way more bookmarked than I have time for but I can't resist.

I too am totally intimidated by PHotoShop even after taking an online course.
